Philanthropic Passion: Affordable Housing & Transportation
EPNO CLASS 2017
Sharree Walls is the first Executive Director of Emerging Philanthropists of New Orleans (previously a completely volunteer-run organization for ten years) where she leads the organization’s strategic direction, operations, and the giving circle program. Sharree believes that change-making philanthropy starts within by understanding social issues, personal values, and excitement in being a part of a community.
Sharree has channeled her passion for making a difference by developing skills in communication, fundraising, and operations in nonprofits. Before EPNO, she’s worked with the YMCA of Greater New Orleans, PowerMoves NOLA, Idea Village, in addition to starting an online company, Solace. Her community involvement includes serving as a Friends of Lafitte Greenway volunteer, Audience Advisory Committee member of the Contemporary Arts Center, board member of The Red Beans Krewe, alumni interviewer and fundraiser for the University of Pennsylvania (1917 Award winner), and Vice Curator of the New Orleans Hub of the Global Shapers Community (an initiative of the World Economic Forum).
Sharree is a magna cum laude graduate from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Urban Studies. In recognition for her leadership, she was awarded the Fox Alumni Research and Service Fellowship, one of fifteen women selected as a Senior Honor Award Finalist, accepted into two Honor Societies, and selected as Fulbright Finalist.
Outside of EPNO and her community commitments, Sharree enjoys running through New Orleans neighborhoods, visiting art galleries wherever she visits, staying current with her Spanish and Portuguese through film and music, and writing about social change.
